I went out with Captain Derek for 2 cruises. We left Rod 'N' Reel and sailed in the Chesapeake for 2 hours for each sail.
Century Club: Jen Hendershot
I visited Calvert Marine Museum, which was surprisingly really, really great. We took the opportunity to go in the row boat and to try out the various types of boat they had there.
On 7/21 I flew to Portland, Maine and took an uber to Handy Boat Maina. I stepped on the 45 foot Leopard catamaran and within the hour we were anchors away to head to Martha's Vinyard, Mass. Sailing in Maine was beautiful however there were so many lobster pots and in the very deep waters. We got to Chappaquiddick on 7/22 where we anchored. On 7/23 we stayed in the general vacinity on the boat near Edgartown and Chappaquiddick. On 7/24 we stayed outside of Martha's Vinyard and had a really nice time exploring the island, lighthouse, flying the drone on the boat and seeing Oak Bluffs. On 7/25 we did not go ashore at all because the weather was very breezy and caused lots of waves, which would have been a very wet dinghy ride. In the early hours of 7/26 I was awakened to a thumping noise and I initially though we had dragged anchor in the winds and waves, but it was another boat who had done so and was crashing into our boat. It was exciting to call the coast guard (and get ignored) and then to tie the boat up to our in the dark. The owner came later int he day. They were nice and brought gifts for saving their boat. Pulled anchor in the afternoon and sailed to Cuttyhunk. 7/27 the weather was cold and threats of rain. we dinghied into cuttyhunk and had pizza. On 7/27 we dinghied back to Cuttyhunk again and tried to go to the historical society but it was closed. Hiked to Orchid point, and ate wild blackberries on the way. Got back to the boat and rested for the sail on 7/29 from cuttyhunk to Newport. 7/30 I dinghied from the boat to explore Newport. 7/31 we stayed on the boat all day and worked on sail logs. On 8/1, I dinghied off the boat, ubered to the airport and flew home.
Sailed on Eternal Hope out of Rod 'n' Reel resort into the Chesapeake Bay for a sailing charter.
Sailing on Eternal Hope out of Chesapeake Beach.
First day sailing on Eternal Hope as first mate for sailing charters.
We took the kayak out for a nice day trip. We went up into Fishing Creek and we went out into the Chesapeake Bay, which was unusually calm. We saw lots of jellyfish.
We went to the St. Michaels Maritime Museum for an event and we were treated to an unexpected and super nice ride in a beautiful Chris-craft. What a treat!
Took my friend Alan and his boat Seneca down the Chesapeake. We intended to part ways in Hampton, however we got into storms, which was causing a delay which was schedule prohibitive. So we parted ways in Solomons after toughing out some storms and anchoring late. Alan proceeded down the Chesapeake but was unable to get across the ocean due to some technical issues.
Went for day sail with my friend Alan on Seneca.
