Sail through summer with a cruising club.
Compass Boating Club of the Chesapeake members enjoy a season full of summer cruising. The club concluded its annual Spring Cruise after ports of call on both shores of the Bay and a private tour of the Richardson Maritime Museum in Cambridge, MD. Many thanks to docents Peter and Jim for their time and immense knowledge.
In July, we had our mini-cruise, Sail into Summer, chaired by Cynde Nordone and Nancy Hendrick. In addition to some breezy anchorages, participants got to plug-in to beat the heat. The three-hour tour of Poplar Island was a great educational opportunity, followed across the Bay with a potluck dinner. We also enjoyed another Follow the Wind cruise. Beginning in the Northern Bay on July 15, we sailed in search of full sails, anchorages in shady coves, and good crabcakes.
Our Fall Cruise plans are currently underway with tentative dates of September 20-26. We will be cruising to some favorite ports, beginning on the western shore and heading east in search of fall foliage and good anchorages. Drive-alongs will have opportunities to join in for restaurant dinners and historic town strolls. We have another great cruise planned in October, called Autumn Breeze Before the Freeze. Event chair, Laura Gwinn, is putting together a great itinerary with some new ports for our club along with some old favorites.
If you are looking for a boating club that is tailored to you, please send a brief description of your experience, contact information, and expectations to [email protected]. We look forward to hearing from you and having you join us this sailing season!
