As we were raising the main while approaching the start of a Rally from Martinique to Panama and on to the Galapagos Islands, my left hand got caught between the main halyard and the powerful electric winch, thus causing an override which prevented the halyard from going in either dirction and releasing my hand. The halyard had to be led to another electric winch which pulled out the override and released my hand. I was taken to the hospital in Martinigue, then flew that afternoon to Miami for actual treatment. Probable full recovery in 2 to 2.5 months.
