Grey and drizzle couldn't keep me off the water to score day 99!
Century Club: Ben Clark
98 days on the water and I finally hooked a rockfish. 13 inches of bull fury churning the sea into a sea thing mass of foam, and for the first time this year, if you don't count the two cownose rays I caught back in the spring.
I took E's kayak out, since the water was licking the deck of the dock. Went up to the drawbridge and back, most of the docks were underwater.
I'm throwing a little panic as a storm is moving up the coast threatening 3 foot storm surge. I don't need that,
Went up halfway to the bridge, and back against the wind. Stupid storm is going to keep me off the 100 mark before I can get back to the cabin.
I took Orla to Sandy Point and instantly found the fish, but the wind had set up from the north overnight and tossed up a pretty rough sea. I went down to Whitehall Bay, but lots of other folks had the same idea and it was a little crowded for trolling, so I tried getting up to the Magothy but the pounding was relentless, so I elected to pack it in after four hours.
Went over to the 50 bridge and hugged the shoreline for an hour, but no bites. Totally dead air, so I couldn't use the sail.
A rainy and gusty morning kept me from venturing out early, and kept me bottled up when I did get out. I did learn all about crimes of barratry while I waited for the weather to open.
I had to swerve all the head boats, but I still got a good hour of fishing in.
Lots of company on the creek this morning. It is still a bit rough on the river, so I'm sticking to the streams that I'm used to, and the parade of fools started early so I didn't stay out long.
It was a windy morning with Hurricane Lee passing out to sea, so with the low tide at noon I didn't have enough water under my keel to venture out until evening.
