Started prepping for race on Harlequin, and bobbed around in very light winds on the Chesapeake Bay (while our fearless skipper made repairs to spinnaker hardware); but I had to go in to shore before racing commenced due to an emergency. My team dropped me off at a dock on the Severn, and finished the races, complete with some unanticipated clothing casualties and crazy-high humidity (heat index, anyone?)

Took our new friend and new sailor Tony out for a lovely 3-hour tour on the Chesapeake out of Annapolis. No problems today; it was hot, humid weather on shore, but was actually somehow pleasant on the water covered in clothes to shield the sun. Left the dock about 1:45 and encountered a nice breeze. Lots of people out using the water but almost all seemed to be aware of the rules of the road, safety, or general courtesies. Sailed nearly all the way back to the dock.

Best part was sailing beside our 2 daughters who had just finished their first Snipe Race as a combination Skipper/Crew (they've crewed for Snipes for quite a while, but want to develop some Skippering acumen on the Snipe. Izzy Fadullon was Skipper for the 2-day race). Of course, the Snipe class is just a wonderful racing class to be around, and have been supportive. If my video doesn't load, youll have to suffer a photo...

Friday night racing sponsored by Eastport Yacht Club, on Cal-25 Harlequin with Skipper Leo, Peggy, Stephen, and Josh. Mild but reliable wind at about 10 knots gusting to 12 knots. Many boats out on a tight course. Getting used to things. Decent night all told. Enjoyed chatting a bit with people at EYC afterward, and getting back into the swing of things after a month-long setback in life.

Not sure why we started out...was it just to get away from the dust and pollen?  Were we trying to chase the kids? Anyway, it turned into a surprisingly rewarding afternoon on the water.  A thunderstorm had threatened, and there seemed to be something like a funnel cloud, but it moved on. Steady, sufficient breeze for just the two of us. Af first, we were just going to motor out. Then, we decided to raise the main. Finally, we decided to hank on the jib. It's the kind of thing that makes you recall why you sail in the first place.

Saw 3 large, majestic dolphins between Greenbury Point and Horn Point. It almost felt like the world was thanking us for using sail power and not those crazy over-zealous power boats that came out.

As we were sailling back up the creek to our slip at a lazy speed, we even conversed with a power boat coming in at a fairly lazy speed (gentleman was fishing off the side while the lady steered), about how I could probably kayak faster. He also kayaks. It was good, a moment of relaxed joy.

May try to post a photo later...

Ok, so we took out our grown kids' friends, yes, a whole boatload of them, and for various reasons were not intending to sail, only motor. Nevertheless, since it's a sailboat, I'll log this one as a sailboat. All was pleasantly fine and we were happy that everything went according to plan. Water is warm this time of year, and the weather was fine for us in our lighweight clothing. Did sight some sort of skate or small sharklike creatures.

Morgan 366 sloop, purchased by Roger in 1978. Quite a large crew on board, ranging from first-timers to the well seasoned... and a few crew members who definitely showed their resourceful ingenuity when things broke. Our friend Laura A. helped organize the crew for this boat.  Quite a warm day for June. Great snacks and plenty of water on board.

Nice day to do a little pre-season practice for racing the Cal-25. Lovely people on the boat. Shared a few Steamed Crabs afterward!
