At dawn, paddled a triangular route out into the Bay, back to bump-out zone and back.

Between the bitter winter and another bout of health issues, once again, I'm off to a late start. I got out early this morning and quickly realized how rusty, tight, and out of shape I was. I paddled south to the first dock that juts into the Bay near the Breezy Point line, around, under, and then back to the launch zone.
Next to Christmas, it's the happiest day of the year! Thanks to Mike for assisting me with the first docking of the year.
A great day of racing with a crew of 7. Warm air, chilly air, light winds, gusts of 19+.
We took the afternoon Big Beard boat over to Buck Island, off of St Croix, USVI. The snorkeling was great and we had I great time. I decided to "pass" on the vodka punch on the boat after we all got out of the water.
Day 1 on the water for 2026 and what a way to do it! Kayaking in the Caribbean, on the west end of St Croix! One good, tough workout of the shoulders and arms.

Our plan today was to get Dave into the Century Club with a sail on the Pax River. However, when neither of us liked the forecast for light winds, we called an audible and decided to go launch our kayaks up the River, at the north end of Jug Bay, near Wayson’s Corner. At the end of the day, we had our first Father/Son Century Club!
Well sadly, today marks the end of the racing season for 2026. We had it all today… strong winds, cold air, warmer temperatures, lighter winds.
The racing season is over but not the sailing. Our last day of sailing is December 31st. The new sailing year starts on January 1st! Go Sailing team Barba Roja 73052 !!!
Today was the third of the four races in the SMSA Fall Frostbite Series. Most of the boats started with a reef in the sails (shortened sails). The boats that didn’t take a reef early wished they had! With winds blowing 22, gusting 36 this tough crew of just four raced Barba Roja around the course in the Patuxent River! Yes, we had our hands full as we hit a top speed of 9.9 knots! At the end of the race we celebrated with a much-deserved beverage.
Fall Frostbite race #2 and this was my closest sailing ever. I still don't know how no boats hit each other!
This is what I mean when I say “good, close racing.” This was at the start of the race. This picture doesn’t do it justice. We were inches apart from one another!
