We made an elongated triangle, around the Oyster Sanctuary buoy, to the Boy Scout dock, under and around and back home again. 2 miles.
Century Club: Bob Ohler
Paddled a triangular course , NE to the oyster sanctuary buoy, to the Camp Roosevelt property line and back. Met Steve Stowers by the cliffs. Great paddling! (The Bay temp is getting cooler!)
Solo sailing…. Winds 15+ NE on the Pax River. Full main with stay sail. 2 hours. Top speed 7.3 knots. A Cape Dory day!
On a nice night with a spectacular sunset, Team BR practiced with the staysail, experimenting with different sheet and car positions. We hit a top speed of 7.5 knots.
I continue to be amazed by the increased speed, performance, and ease of tacking with the new staysail!

This was one of my best sailing days ever. I tried out the new staysail on the new roller furler. I just have to ask myself why we didn't do this sooner. I had all 3 sails flying on our Cape Dory 30, the Aloha Spirit The boat has never sailed better and the helm has never been better balanced. Andy Vavolotis (builder of Cape Dory boats), Carl Alberg (the designer of the Cape Dory 30) and Glenn R. Ohler (my father and the person who awakened the sailing DNA in me) were all smiling down on me today! I was smiling as well.
Toughest paddling I've done in a long time! Winds 12-15. White caps forming. Paddled to the oyster sanctuary buoy off of Breezy Point. 1.24 miles. 46 minutes.
On a flat Bay, and under gray skies, I paddled to the Breezy Point dock and back.
I'm on a great streak of getting out there on the water. Patuxent, Carrotowman, Novak Lake, and the Chesapeake Bay have all played a part. Sailboats, powerboats, rafts, and kayaks have been my vehicles. #80 feels good!
