Saturday 5/15 - Frost Goode Race up PAX river. We got stuck in a section of bad air and finished the race after the time limit... NOT COOL... oh well i guess thats sailing sometimes!
Monday 5/17- Im looking to possible be a teacher at my club for new sailors. So the instructors all took out the 2 Holder 20s we will be using for training and test sailed them in the river and back. It was a nice sailing boat! I liked them.
My son and I went out for a SMSA small boat race last night. Race #1 we NAILED the start! it was exciting being inchs from oter boats and having the advantage on the start line. It turned into a drifter and Tommy did realy well in the lite air. We ended up in 7th out of 9 boats. Im still waiting to recive his new sails i ordered in January... I think he will see a good improvement in performance once he has them.
Nothing should have worked out the way it did last night.....but it did and we finished a race in very lite conditions! we were the only boat in out class to finish... but hey! A wins a win right?
Tommy an I went out on his boat for some racig on thursday night. We were able to correct over a flying scott, even with the OLD sails! tommy is doing a great job driving the boat and I cant be more proud!
Double hander race this past saturday. We had a TEARABLE time getting the spinaker up in 22kts of wind with a twist in the clue and then a sheet running off the wnech and off the boat! uhg,,,, we probable got last, but we hung in there and finished,
Last night WE went out to watch the rocket take off at wollps island... that didnt happend for the 3rd night in a row! o well.the sailing was perfect!
Wow what a race! It was sporty to say the least! We did tear the spinaker and shrimp it a little, but no one was hurt, we all had fun and if not for a mistake steering on my part, we would have been in first. But... man what a race! Love doing this stuff! Winds were up at 25kts gustuing to 34kts.... full main.... full 155% Genoa.... DEATH BEFOR REEFING! lol...we didnt die ;)
Well... it didnt go as planned... we attempted to do some fishing on Saturday, but the winds were way to high and the sea state was up. My son actually got a little sea sickness for the first time. after 2 hours I called it, and we went in. Still.. any day on the water beats a day on land!
My son and I took his Mutt out for A thursday night race. The goal stared out as just finish each race... then as we progressivly got better, it was "lets beat that lasar... then "come on! o want to beat that 420! Well we did! took sixth place over all after 4 races. Not too bad for a 11yr old skipper and 40yearlod sails!
We had a good race overall. I learned i valuable lesson at the start and how i was in the wrong, but at the time i was unsure of the rules.Luckly the other competitors didnt proetst and we all hashed it out afterwards at the club with a drink. We had a few new sailor with us for the race, so as im learning im also trying to teach. it can get challaging at times. We took third place for our class and it was a very nice evening on the water.
