Helped a friend with his boat's shore power electrical system and batttery charger. We discovered how the system is wired and have ideas on improving it. An updated battery charger and batteries were installed.
Century Club: Terry Slattery
8/1: Kayak fishing in the cove. No bites but something rather large is striking things at the surface. A fisherman reported a snakehead in the canal this past weekend.
8/2: Paddled down Whitehall. Saw a young eagle. Talked with neighbors on the way back.
8/3: Kayak fishing in the canal/cove. No luck.
8/6: Paddled up the canal. Found some plastic and a cork bobber.
8/9: Deep Creek: Rented a pontoon boat for an afternoon trip out on the lake.
8/10: Paddled along the Deep Creek shoreline. Some very nice houses here.
8/11: Paddled the same path as yesterday to get some pictures of the houses. Lots of SAV along the shoreline where it's not too deep.
8/12: Paddled the opposite direction - to the cove. Lots of SAV. It's a good idea to go out earlier in the day before there's a lot of boat traffic.
8/14: Back at Whitehall, paddled up into the cove. Picked up a plastc straw.
8/15: Paddled up Ridout Cr. The osprey chick is gone. Not much boat traffic. Found a piece of plastic and a tennis ball.
8/16: Paddled to Minnow Cr. Pickedup a piece of fiberglass. Two pontoon boats out.
8/19: Paddled up Whitehall past the marina. Found an old swim noodle,a a bottle of shampoo conditioner, a flip-flop, and two pieces of plastic.
8/20: Paddled to Minnow Cr. Saw and eagle. Picked up a handfull of plastic bits and a mooring ball.
8/21: Paddled past Minnow Cr. Saw two eagles in a tree. Picked up several small pieces of plastic. Several boats out.
7/28: Cloudy, 85F, calm. Remarkable number of calm days this year. Motored to Rock Hall for the D5 rendezvous. Picked up a water bottle off 2W. Used only the stbd engine to practice maneuvering with one engine.
7/30: Sailed the rowing/sailing dinghy around the Rock Hall harbor. It's shallow here - ran aground three times and hit something solid once with the daggerboard. A fellow properly guessed that it was a fatty knees and I let him sail it around a few minutes.
7/31: Return to Whitehall. Wind S@3 so we motored. Picked up a mylar balloon.
7/18: Sunny, 89F, SW@20. Paddled up the canal due to high winds. Picked up three plastic bottles and one beer can.
7/20: Paddled up Whitehall past the marina. No plastic today. Talked with Robbyn.
7/21: Paddled up Ridout Cr. No plastic. The wind dropped from S@20 to 5 while out.
7/22: Paddled to minnow Cr. Pickedup a crabpot float. Took it to the watermen's pier in Minnow Cr. Lots of boats out.
7/23: Paddled to Minnow Cr. Sunny, 90F, calm. A couple of kayakers and two fishermen out.
7/24: Paddled to Whitehall Bay. Four kayakers and a couple of fishermen in a boston whaler. Picked up three pieces of plastic.
7/25: Paddled in the canal and picked up several plastic wrappers. Tried fishing but no bites.
7/26: Very calm today, low clouds, 75F. Paddled up Ridout Cr to the headwaters. Saw an eagle. The single osprey chick is still there.
7/27: Paddled up Whitehall. Found three pieces of plastic. One person fishing. There seems to be a big fish attacking something near the surface in the cove.
7/16: Partly cloudy, 86F, calm. Motored to the Wye River raftup location. After dinner a wind change and higher winds caused the rather large raft to begin dragging so we broke off to reduce windage on the raft.
7/17: Return to Whitehall. Sunny, 88F, light winds. Were able to motorsail for a short time then motoring. The Annapolis fireboat was out practicing.
7/14: Paddled up Ridout Cr. No plastic. Most ospreys have left the creek. Only one nest seems to have been productive.
7/15: Paddled to Minnow Cr. Picked up a plastic water bottle and several plastic wrappers. More ospreys around and lots of powerboats out today.
7/8: Motored to the Rhode River and anchored by 5:30pm. Nice and quiet. Tacos for dinner. Rain started overnight. Seal repair of stbd fwd hatch is working. Had to clean another hatch's seal to stop a leak.
7/9: Spent all day on anchor in the Rhode River. Took the dinghy out to row around the small island. We saw two eagles and several ospreys.
7/10: Sailed to Marshy Cr near Kent Narrows for a Kent Narrows squadron raftup. 4 boats and 17 people. Lots of good food.
7/11: Return to Whitehall, motoring due to calm winds.
6/27: Fishing in Ridout Cr. No bugs. No plastic. Nice evening out.
6/28: Paddled down Whitehall to Minnow Cr. Picked up some plastic wrappers and misc plastic along the shoreline. A few boats out.
6/29: Paddled up Whitehall past the marina. Found one piece of plastic. Wind S@10-15 made it a bit more challenging to paddle back.
6/30: Paddled to Minnow Cr and picked up several pieces of plastic. Saw an eagle. Several sailboats anchored in the creek.
7/1: Paddled up Ridout Cr. Talked with Kevin. The ospreys don't seem to have many chicks this year.
7/2: Lux work day 1 - rebedded the forward locker latches.
7/6: Paddled up Ridout Cr. One powerboat out. No people outside - 88F today - they're probably inside staying cool. One osprey nest has a chick.
7/7: Paddled to Minnow Cr. Picked up several plastic wrappers. Startled a big fish at one point. Looks like an algae bloom in the creek.
6/23: Lux from Whitehall to Herrington Harbor South. Cloudy, misty, limited visibility, 68F, E@5. Light winds meant motoring. Practiced with radar.
6/24: Lux at Herrington Harbor South. Took the dinghy to row through the marina. Lots of nice boats here.
6/25: Herrington Harbor South to Rock Hall. Motored to the Bay Bridge and then set the spinnaker for two hours before the wind died.
6/26: Lux from Rock Hall to Whitehall. Sunny, 89F, S@10-15. Sailed to 2W. Four tacks to get to the Bridge and one more to get into Whitehall Bay. Lots of boats out.
6/6: Kayaked into the canal to fish for snakeheads - no bites. Picked up a couple of plastic pieces. I was being so quiet that a muskrat swam within a paddle length before realizing I was there.
6/7: Cloudy, 75F, S@15-20. Stiff paddle in the wind to Ridout Cr. Two sailboats anchored in the creek. Picked up several plastic bits.
6/8: Paddled up Whitehall past the marina. No plastic today.
6/9: Used the rowing dinghy to fish. Caught and released a small perch. No other bites.
6/10: Rowing dinghy into the canal. Picked up one piece of plastic - looks like the back to an instrument.
6/11: Paddled to Minnow Cr. Found an antifreeze jug and a plastic pool decoration. No wind, 71F. Nice calm day on the water.
6/12: Paddled up Ridout Cr. Picked up one piece of plastic. Several boats out.
6/14: Paddled to the mouth of Meredith Cr and pickedup one piece of plastic. Mostly smooth water with only a few boats out. No wind driven waves.
6/15: Paddled up Whitehall past the marina. Found a bunch of plastic today, including a 5-gal bucket. Lots of wrappers and smaller plastic bits.
6/16: Paddled up Ridout Cr. No plastic found.
6/17: Kayak fishing in the cove. Caught and released one perch, two others hooked but not landed. Picked up a plastic bottle. Breezy out in the creek.
6/18: Paddled up the canal. Picked up a bunch of plastic pieces and a pool float ring. Talked with a fisherman at one of the houses about snakeheads he's been catching.
6/19: Rowing dinghy into the canal to fish for snakeheads - no luck. Surprisingly, no mosquitoes so far this summer. Neighbors seems to be treating for them. Unfortunately, that also reduces the number of lightning bugs.
6/20: Kayak fishing in the canal. No bites. Watched a raccoon along the shoreline.
6/21: Rowing dinghy in the cove and moved to Lux for this weekend's trip.
