Decided to use the return trip from Baltimore as a practice day before Gov Cup. Got a good bit of helm time and navigated two sail changes as the wind built. Overall a great day on the water.
Century Club: Michael Nepini
Light winds at the start but we were able to get a good position heading to the harbor light, winds picked up at the light and we had a very smooth spin set. Held a good reach under spinnaker for a long way up the river until we sailed into a no wind hole and slowed down. Winds continued to be variable up the bay so we doused the spin, sailed under our jib for a while before re-launching the spin. The wind died off as we were coming up to the ruins of the key bridge and we had a slow crawl up the harbor to a shortened finish at Fort McHenry.
Pursuit race tonight with new sails. Smooth race overall with some good tactical calls led to a 3rd place finish.
Pushed an aggressive position at the start that didn't quite work out but made up time on the first upwind leg, had a really strong run on the first downwind and contunued it around for the second lap, wind died off as we were coming into the finish and we lost some time.
Started off the evening with a couple boat projects before setting out for a night sail to practice for gov cup. Went out of the Magothy and up towards rock hall before turning around and coming home.
Quick paddle off SMSA to finish out the holiday weekend
Out on Dangerous for a sunset cruise. went out into the bay towards Cove Point then turned around and came back up the river. Got some time on helm and enjoyed watchiing the sunset.
Fast race, worked through some issues on the spin douse but still managed to finish second
Started the day off with going up the mast on Incorrigible to re-tape the spreaders. Went out toward the bridge, rounded a mark, then ran a long downwind leg back towards fort mchenry with a few gybes. Saw a large storm coming up so we doused and headed home.
More wind than expected, good start, little bit of issues on the downwind legs but figured out what happened and were able to get them solved pretty quickly.
