Skeleton crew this week but we were able to get in a race after the afternoon storms. Started well, went up to the first mark, rounded and came back down under the jib. Some jib issues worked themselves out on the second upwind leg and we attempted to put the spin up for the last downwind. As we went to hoist, the halyard shackle caught the lifelines and went up without the sail attached. Finished the second downwind under jib and had to go up the mast after the race to retrieve it. Good learning experience for what not to do in the future.

Strong start and run up to the first upwind mark, rounded, set the spin, gybed, and doused successfully. Second leg was a bit slower as the wind fell off but still managed to make good time. Sailed down for a smooth finish.
Dangrous was back in the water so I went out to help with a shakedown cruise before her first race of the season on Wednesday. Sailed out into the basin be Solomons, put a spin up, gybed, then doused and went up to the bridge and back under the number one. Good day out on the water despite the rainy weather and the Dangrous crew is happy to have her back in the water for the season.
Same course as last week but decidedly different conditions, had some traffic in our start from the non-spin class but they got out of the way quickly. Rounded the first mark, set the spin, successfully doused and came up the upwind leg. Had some issues on the second douse but quick thinking and help from other crew got it solved quickly. I was also helping to train a new person on the mast and had to keep reminding myself of the importance of clear unambiguous requests. Finished the race and got to catch a beautiful sunset on the way in.
Heavy air day, ended up a little late for the start but had a strong race and got to use the heavy air spinnaker for both of the downwind legs. The crew is starting to build skills and work really well together so I'm excited to see what the rest of the season brings.
Crowded start at the line led into a relatively smooth first upwind leg. Ran into a small rights issue as someone was trying to cross us but no contact and we got ahead anyway. Rounded the first mark, had a smooth spin set and gybe on the way down to the second mark. Another smooth douse and rounding back to the first mark and made good time on the fleet. Wind turned off right before the finish so I trimmed the spin from the rail and one more gybe into a tiny bit of breeze got us across the line. Thanks Lynn for the pictures.
Out on Red Baron (Olson 29) for a casual Sunday sail. Went up to the bridge then back down the river and out into the bay by Cove Point. Wind was a little gusty but made for good speed and it was good to get back on the water after missing both of my normal weekday races last week.
Paddled from SMSA all the way up Mill Creek into St. John's Creek then around to Spring Cove and back.
Paddled off Clarkes Landing, down around the bridge, up into Little Kingston Creek and back to the launch point
In Delaware for the holiday weekend and got an invite to sail on a friend of a friend's Pearson 365 in Lewes. Went for a very choppy reach across part of the bay before turning around and going back. It was a unique expereince sailing on a boat that's very different from what I'm used to.
