Went ashore again and hiked south along the west shore, then went back to hike Boo Boo Hill again.  While we were on the beach near the headquarters, a ranger came up and asked us to leave.  Apparently, the Prime Minister had just issued an order as a result of Covid-19 closing all the beaches, prohibiting inter island travel, etc.  Went back to the boat and snorkeled some very nice coral heads.

Sailed to Staniel Cay and tried to anchor near the Grotto with no success.  Moved west and anchored temporarily while we went ashore for a couple Gerry cans of diesel.  Walked to laundromat/liquor store and bought a case of beer.  Motored around to Big Major Spot and anchored in a crowd near north end, just off sailor’s beach.  Went ashore to look around.

Stayed at Black Point.  Took dinghy around to creek near cut at north end and dinghied past the pier and found a small blue hole.  Looked like a great place for bonefish in the right conditions.  Went ashore on second day and did laundry while Patti ran.  Bought some of the best home baked bread (regular and coconut) I've ever had from a lady next door to the laundromat.   Had dinner aboard with old friends.

Left anchorage at 8:45 and exited Adderly Cut on an almost slack tide with buddy boats. Everyone else went South to Georgetown while we went North.  Winds were from 080 at 15-18G23.  Sailed under genoa alone and arrived Galliot Cut around 11AM.  Motored thru entry in slightly rough conditions with swell but it was manageable.  After entry, unrolled full genoa and sailed up to Little Farmers Cay and went up to Kemps Bay and anchored with a few other boats.  Took the dinghy into town and couldn’t believe how many sea turtles there were!  Had lunch at the Ocean Cabin the walked up to a neat little school ans spent about an hour talking to the teacher and a couple of students.  Very cool.

  • Iguanas on Leaf Island

Left Boysie Cay at 11AM on a rising tide to navigate over a shallow bank heading North.  Followed a friend over the shallow area 2 hrs before high tide and saw nothing less that 6.5’.  Motored to Lee Stocking island and anchored in crowded bay just south of Perry’s Peak.  Took dinghy to Leaf Island to see the iguanas then came back and hiked to the top of peak.  Later we dinghied north to the old research station and explored the area.  Collected some coconuts and returned to the boats before meeting on the beach for sundowners with about 8 boatloads of friends.  Lots of fun!

Left Monument Beach and sailed about 15 NM to Square Rock Cut in ENE winds of 15G20 kts.  Made 7.5 kts under full main and genoa.  Had to slow down to let a buddy boat catch up and lead us thru the cut.  Decent swell rolling in to the cut with the current thankfully!  Just as we were entering, a squall hit and jacked up our visibility.  One big swell tried to surf me into a broach but I managed to maintain course.  Anchored behind Boysie Cay with 3 friends in big surge that I thought would subside.  It didn’t and around 2 AM woke up to crap falling off of the table and counter tops as we rolled thru about 90 degrees!!  It really sucked and we chalked it up to a learning experience.  On the plus side, there was a big blow hole right on the beach in front of us. Pretty cool, especially since the noise was almost a whistle.
