The first day of ILCA/Laser Frostbite season was cloudy with a nice chilly breeze.  Many boats attended the event.  I had two great races and a bunch of ok races.  As always it is fun to be on the water with my friends.  Looking forward to Sundays!

We spent the weekend in Savannah, GA while I attended a veterinary seminar.  Took a ride on across the Savannah River on the free ferry so we can count a day in the water.  You can walk right on with your carry out beverage.  So cool seeing the giant container ships up close!

Ferry ride was so much fun we had to go again the next day! (After cocktails at the speakeasy)

We took advantage of a free weekend and took Terrapin to Oxford for the weekend.  There was no breeze on Friday so we motored from Solomons to Oxford.  We got to the Tred Avon River in time for a beautiful sunset.  Saturday we took dinghy rides and explored town.  The Halloween decorations were great!  Scottish Highland Creamery was closed for the season but we discovered their ice cream is served by the new coffee shop (Oxford Social).  After a coffee walk Sunday morning we hauled anchor and headed back south.  It was a strong building southerly and after motor sailing most of the way we shut off the engine and tacked our way the rest of the way sailing all the way in to Spring Covr Marina.  A great weekend cruise!

It was another epic weekend in Deltaville, VA for the Annual Chesapeake Laser Masters Regatta!  Two days of racing, campfire with friends and an amazing gourmet dinner.  It is the highlight of our racing season every year! Four races in light breeze.  I placed 12th overal and won the first woman trophy.  Such a blast and I can't wait until we do it again next year!

It was a fun BNAC in Solomons.  Thursday we watched the light air practice race from Terrapin and towed our friends in.  Racing started Friday.  Our day ended early due to an unfortunate capsize during a gybe just before the finish of race two.  These things do not recover like a Laser and are very stable upside down.  Saturday the breeze was light ans we managed a fourth place.  Sunday was breezy!!  It was a great event.

Our long anticipated bay baycation finically starred on Sunday, August 22.  We pulled out of Solomons in the afternoon after a morning run to West Marine to purchase a new cooler because the refrigerator was acting weird. We motor down the bay surrounded by thunderstorms but never caught any nasty weather.  Our first achorage was the Great Wicomico River, VA.  Monday morning after coffee we headed out on a still bay south to Mobjack Bay.  In the afternoon the wind came up and we had a lovely sail from Wolf Trap light into the East River where we stayed anchored for two nights.  Wednesday we needed to fill up on ice and water so we stopped at Fishinf Bay Marina for a pit stop after another motor.  Afterwards the breeze came up so we explored the Piankatank under sail before dropping anchor for the night.  Thursday we motored again (lack of wind) up to Little Bay on Antipoison Creek near Windmill Point.  We read about this anchorage in the August issue of SpinSheet magazine.  It was so amazing we stayed for two nights, exploring the beaches by dinghy and twice making a pilgrimage through the marsh to the Rappahannock River and the tiki bar at Windmill Point Marina.  Saturday morning we had a lovely sail across the bay to Tangier where the wind died and we needed to turn on the trusty Yanmar to get us into Crisfield.  Ther we docked at Somers Cove Marina for the night and visited my parents for dinner.  After breakfast with the locals we headed back out on the bay for our last and windiest day.  Unfortunately that wind was right on the nose as we motored 35 miles back home to Solomons.  It was a hot week with a lot of swimming and thankfully no sea nettles.  A great week on the water with my husband!

Sadly with our wedding in May and moving into a new house in June we have had very little time to spend with our cruising boat, Terrapin.  This weekend she got a much needed short-haul so we could scrape off ten months of barnacles and get her back on the move.  Our afternoon day sail turned into an overnight in the Honga River after we caught enough Spanish Mackerel trolling under sail to make a tasty dinner.  Yay for Terrapin's grand return to the bay!

We brought our Buccaneer 18, Spanish Mackerel, to SSA to race AYC's Two Bridge Fiasco.  We rigged her on Saturday afternoon and took a leisurely practice/cocktail sail around the Severn River.  Sunday started too blustery and choppy for our little Spanish so we skipped the race ans opted to explore the creeks under sail.  Later when the breeze laid down we threw in a few practice gybes.  Maybe next year!  Still a fun weekend on the water.
