  • Dreaming of dinner. No such luck.
  • Colonial Beach

Alan and I took the Kiwi Kruzer to the middle of the Potomac just off Colonial Beach to fish. Few nibbles, no catches.  Saw plenty of jellyfish out, isn't it a little early for those little scumbags?

Took the Kiwi Kruzer to Horsehead Cliff just past Westmoreland State Park. Anchored and floated around in our floaty chairs.  Hot and muggy out, pretty windy too. Nice day to be out on the water.

  • The Kiwi Kruzer
  • That's Alan paddling in the distance.

Bought the permit to go to Shark Tooth Island in May but this was the first time we actually went. The depth finder on the Kiwi Kruzer wasn't working and I didn't want to get too close, so we achored off shore. Alan brought his paddleboard and I my floaty chair and he towed me onto land. Found one shark tooth!!  Beautiful day out, the Potomac was very calm and smooth. Great day.

Went with Alan to sail our precision out of the creek into the Poromac. Trusting-Alan suggested I take over sailing duties so I did take the helm for about 1/2 hour. Been many years since I sailed by myself.  I guess I did ok, we didn't run aground or capsize. It was fun. Very warm sunny and humid day but these are the days I love.

  • Calmer side of the creek

Kayaked into windy weather (13 mph winds) we had no business going out into, but after going around Fox Point it was immediately calm(er) and we were able to kayak all the way to the marina and back. A little tough going back around the point to home but I think the wind had died down some by then.. But my arms definitely aching. Spent some time in a floaty chair drinking a beer which is my happy place.

  • Beginning of our fiasco adventure

Alan and I went out on the creek, me in the kayak and Alan on the board.  We were headed to Berkeley Beach when I turned around and he was no where to be found. It was a warm sunny clear day.

I stopped for about 10 minutes looking around, searching, and finally decided he must have turned around at some point tho he was right behind me 5 minutes before I lost him. I paddled across the creek back and forth searching and finally decided he was dead in a ditch somewhere (I know, unlikely in a creek) but after about 1/2 hour after I was thinking about what to wear at his funeral, I finally saw him paddling across the creek going toward home.  He assumed I had capsized and drowned.

It was sorta amazing and scary how we couldn't see each other in the water even tho we were probably 100 yards from each other when we lost sight of each other. Now we know to stay close. A learning experience.

After 4 days of solid rain we were antcie to get out on the water. Alan went sailing while I kayaked along side him. Not much wind so I was faster than the boat was. A sudden burst of rain didn't dampen our spirits but I did find a duck blind to shelter under until the rain let up. Nice day. Alan went on for a long sail while I bipped around the creek.

Kayaked in very windy and high wave conditions. When the water was pouring into my kayak with every big wave I knew it was time to return home so I could live to tell about it.
