Today, we went sailing on Sweet Dreams with some crew who were new to cruising. 15+ mph winds, gusting to 25+ mph made for a fun sail and some nervous crew!
Century Club: Dino Frangos
Today I went out for a short sail on Dorothy Gale with Tom and Will. It was very sunny and winds were aroud 15 mph. Perfect!
Today, we had another work party at the DSC, preparing the cruisers for the season.
Today, I spent much of the day at the Downtown Sailing Center for instructor training. We spent the morning in the classroom and the afternoon on the water practicing our skills. Winds were light and it was a bit chilly!
Today, we spent 4-5 hours cleaning and organizing everything on our Beneteau Oceanis 321, which will soon be renamed "Sunrise." It's amazing how much stuff can accumulate on a boat over many years.
Today, we did some more work on the boats, going through checklists to make sure they have everything needed for the new sailing seasons. We also spent some time cleaning the boats. Other DSC members prepped the bottoms of several J/22s.
Today, we installed jibs and mainsails on several cruising boats. It was great to spend some time on the boats, continuing to prepare them for the season. Later in the afternoon, several DSC members hopped on Akimbo and motor-sailed it around the harbor for an hour.
Today we did a little work on the cruising boats at the DSC. We took out Airborne to test out its steering, as it seemed a bit stiff. Conditions were a little gusty, but it good to be out on the water.
Continuing the Saturday afternoon routine, I skippered a J/22 from the Downtown Sailing Center for Frostbite Racing. My crew today was James. We did three L2 races in Baltimore's harbor. It was sunny, but chilly (in the 40s). Winds were variable, so it was a challenge. 9 boats competed today, and we managed to finish in first place for the final race!
As part of the usual Saturday afternoon routine, I skippered a J/22 from the Downtown Sailing Center for Frostbite Racing. We did a couple of L1 races close to our docks. It was a nice day, but winds were very light. The legs were very short, but it still took at least 20 minutes to finish a race. Regardless, it was still great to be out on the water!
