Since the recreational boating ban went into effect, Zahniser’s shut down the marina to all slip holders. You had to seek permission to come to the marina, “slip in and out “. We got permission to come down so we drove out on the 18th to check on Melanna’s condition.
In our haste to pack her back up after provisioning for our marina move, we forgot to check our dock lines one last time before leaving and getting back to Virginia before 8P. We missed our starboard spring line and with the 65 mph sustained winds, the smaller fenders didn’t keep her from banging on the starboard piling. Luckily, Zahniser’s lived up their promise of tending to all the boats in her facility by adding a large fender and adjusting our dock lines. As a result, there was no physical damage to her exterior.
The only damage done was the mirror attached to the vanity medicine cabinet in the head “flew” off and landed mirror side up on a bath at on the head sole! Whew, we were lucky... no cracks, chips, or break!
Spent the afternoon doubling all dock lines, adding anti chafing hosing. Noticed a water leak around navigation station. Will repair on next trip out as we ran out of time.

Zahniser’s in Solomons has been Melanna’s home port for the last 3 1/2 years. With retirement last month, we decided to change our home port to Herrington Harbour North, opening the middle Bay for great cruising destinations.
Just as we finished loading and unpacking the boat and enjoying lunch in the cockpit, alarms started going off all over Zahniser’s. What the heck?
Gov. Hogan is shutting down recreational boating and we have to be off the water by 8P. Amazingly we got ahold of DNR by phone and confirmed the above. Next came a phone call to the Zahniser’s office and we could stay as long as needed...
Talk about taking the winds out of our sails!

With Melanna on the hard, there were plenty of things that we could work on. We serviced the two winches at the helms.
